Visitors to this year's City of Ale Festival will be able to find out more about Norwich's rich pub history – by taking part in a series of walks with Blue Badge Guides.

The first festival, held last year, involved 31 pubs and 35 breweries and proved an enormous success in terms of raising the profile of pubs and real ale in Norwich.

This year's event, to be held from May 31 to June 10, will again celebrate Norwich's beers and brewing – but also the city's rich pub heritage.

That is why organisers are looking to introduce a series of walks during the festival which will combine Norwich's past and its rich pub history.

Dawn Leeder, co-chairman of Norwich City of Ale, said: 'The focus is very much on Norwich's very rich pub and brewery heritage.

'The plan at the moment is to have three walks, perhaps late morning, afternoon and early evening, which will be run through the tourist information office so visitors will be able to book tickets and plan their walks there.'

Ms Leeder said they would be working with Blue Badge Guides to come up with three different routes, but imagined they would take in King Street and parts of the city centre.

'We think it will be quite an attraction for visitors.'

The walks tie in with The Evening News Love Your Local campaign which aims to get people to support their local pubs.
