Green-fingered enthusiasts will be able to explore a city centre garden inspired by influential garden designer and author Gertrude Jekyll.

The large cottage garden, behind the Bear Shop on Elm Hill, Norwich, will be open on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 from 11am-4pm as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS).

Robert Stone, shop proprietor, said: “We get lots of people visit the garden. It is very tranquil. Although it is in the city centre it is a peaceful place.”

The bear shop, which has been open for 29 years, is in a 15th century building and part of Norwich’s Cathedral Quarter.

Garden admission costs are £3 for adults but children can visit for free.

These proceeds will go towards charities chosen by NGS and takings from food and drink will go towards Priscilla Bacon Lodge - a palliative care unit in Norwich.
