Residents of the Golden Triangle area of Norwich have been giving generously to two young boys who have been raising money for abandoned animals in Norfolk.
George Turner, 9, and Jack Codling, 7, both of Unthank Road, put their heads together to raise money for the People for Animal Care Trust (PACT) animal sanctuary at River Farm in Woodrising, by talking to residents in the area about the work the sanctuary does.
The two best friends made donation boxes out of toy cars by fixing plastic pots to them.
Senior volunteer for PACT Charlotte Utting, said: 'I think it's lovely what they have done and we are all very proud of them here.'
The boys are always trying to raise money for charity and they managed to raise their most successful amount to date of �23.49p.
Explaining why they decided to raise the money Jack said: 'To help the animals of course.'
George added: 'We really like animals and wanted to help them. The PACT team do a great job and we to keep helping them as well.'
Although Jack's favourite animals are elephants, which are not cared for by PACT, and George's are chinchillas, Miss Utting explained where the donation will be going to.
'PACT recently admitted over one hundred free range hens rescued from slaughter,' she explained.
'Jack and George have decided they would like the money to be used to look after them.'
The hens had been rescued after being kept in sheds with access to small runs in conditions similar to battery farmed hens.
Miss Utting added: 'The donation will go towards their upkeep, such as feeding them.'
Mike Turner, George's father, who was visiting the sanctuary for the first time to help hand over the donation, said: 'When I found out what they did I was very shocked but also very proud of them.'
PACT rescues, rehabilitates, and where possible rehomes, neglected, injured and abandoned animals and houses around 600 animals at any one time. Over the past thirteen years, PACT has rehomed or released over 5,000 animals.
