A Norwich City fan who is set to miss the play-off final because his wife is expecting twins has written to Delia Smith to ask for a helicopter to get to Wembley.

The Canary, who lives in Plymouth and is known as 'Big Dave', penned the letter on Monday to the joint majority shareholder.

His wife is expecting twin boys on Tuesday, meaning he can't make the play-off final against Middlesbrough on Bank Holiday Monday.

Big Dave - who says he is not actually very tall - is still waiting for Ms Smith to reply to what he admitted was a 'fairly outrageous request', the Plymouth Herald reported.

He said: 'I sent it yesterday afternoon and I keep checking my phone to see if I've got a response.'

Here are extracts from his letter:

Hi Delia (and the NCFC staff),

I hope you are well. I have a problem and need your help. I have supported Norwich since the age of 12 and have been through a lot.

From the Glory days of Europe, to the dark days of 'Chase Out' and Pompey away - desperately trying to get Bryan Gunn's autograph with a pen which won't write because the rain has shredded my programme which was, quite frankly, over priced.

In short, I love NCFC and I currently live in Plymouth.

My wife and I are expecting TWINS and the due date is next Tuesday! I'm excited that my two baby boys will grow up supporting Norwich City FC, but the timing presents a massive problem... I can't be too far away from my wife and driving to Wembley just isn't going to happen as when I get the call, I just may not get back in time.

But fear not, I have a solution... I'm almost POSITIVE that Delia has access to some kind of chopper. I don't need anything like the one Prince Charles pops around the country in, but maybe something a little smaller?

There's a sort of airport in Plymouth where it could pick me up and I'm pretty sure Wembley has a big car park we could land in. Anyway, if I do get the call, the way I see it is I could be back down in Plymouth with the Mrs in under an hour.

With this suggestion EVERYONE wins. Delia Smith's Green and Yellow Army gets an extra supporter and I have a way home if the Mrs decides to pop out little Redmond and Hoolahan I''m still working on names).

Please let me know exactly when/where I need to be on Monday to get my lift and I'll be there with my 1994 football shirt and a punnet of Strawberries for the journey.

Kind regards,

Dave (aka Big Dave [and I ain't tall...])
