A charity walk with a gourmet twist is being held in memory of a Hellesdon man later this summer.

Jackie Parsons, with husband Mick, have organised the event to mark the first anniversary of the death of her father Evan Adams from cancer last August, aged 80.

The couple run a company called Hedonistic Hiking, specialising in walks in Italy and Australia, but have decided to hold the charity walk in Norfolk on Saturday, August 7 to raise funds in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Mr Adams lived at Low Road, Hellesdon, and died on August 10, 2009, just two weeks after he and his wife Heather had celebrated their golden wedding.

Jackie said: 'Marie Curie helped us a lot then. They enabled us to have dad at home rather than go into a hospice and were especially supportive to all of us as a family.

'With the year coming up, Mick and I thought that it would be a nice thing to do to hold a walk and raise money for what is a great cause.

'Lots of people have been helped by the charity and many people have been touched by cancer in a small or large way. This is just a chance for us to get together with other people and put something back.' The walk costs 20 a head with every penny going to the charity. It includes a fresh prepared gourmet lunch, showcasing local produce, which is the hallmark of Hedonistic Hiking walks.

'My dad was a real special man,' said Jackie, who has two sisters and a brother.

'Whoever he was talking to, he made them feel important and was always welcoming; he always had a twinkle in his eye and was a very kind man.'

Mick, who is Australian, and Jackie have a home in Tuscany, but for their company they divide their time between Italy and Australia; running walks in Italy between Easter and November and offering a similar experience in Victoria from November to Easter.

Their holiday operation offers fully-inclusive guided gourmet walking tours but with an added dimension that brings to life the tastes, flavours, culture and history of the region their guests meander through.

Jackie added: 'This walk in Norfolk also gives people a chance to let people experience what we do and see whether they wanted to come across to Italy or Australia for our walks.'

The walk will meet at Garwood, The Street, Hempstead, and there will be small groups led along the 7.5 mile route taking in Baconsthorpe Castle, with Mick preparing the food at a halt at a church hall half-way round with local produce and drinks before ending up at the King's Head at Letheringsett. Jackie explained: 'People will be able to chat and get to know one another. There will be people we know, others who are interested in walking and maybe some who want to find out more about what we do.'
