An evening of music was laid on at the Warren Residential Care Home in Sprowston as part of a community event to raise money for the home.

The three hour event on Friday, in which residents and guests danced and enjoyed baked potatoes, raised 161 to go towards the fund for future activities.

More than 45 people were entertained by American country tribute act Kenny G, in a tribute to the American country and pop music singer Jim Reeves who was popular in the Fifties.

Head of activities at the residential home, Joy Michell, of Blackwell Avenue, Sprowston, said: 'It went very well, we had a full house with people coming from outside of the region as well. There was a lot of fun, laughter and a lot of dancing.'

The Warren Residential Home hold a number of events throughout the year and are hoping that this one – which was used to kick off the new year – will be the first of many successes.

Mrs Michell said: 'Kenny [pictured] was amazing.

'He started singing at half past six and didn't stop until half past nine. He went all the way through; he must have had a lot of puff. A lot of people were asking when the next one will be.

'We usually raise about 150 to 200, so 161 is quite a good bit of money, especially for a three-hour event.'

The Warren care home and its staff are double award winners, having won a national care award two years running.

In 2008 they won Carer of the Year and in 2009 their home trainer Nathan Kidd won Home Trainer of the Year.

A further event is planned for May in which accordion and vocalist duo Giovanni and David Valentine will perform, with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness.

The home's general manager, Hilary Jones, is also due to take part in the Breast Cancer Awareness Sun Walk.

The event will see participants walking a half marathon around London landmarks, with many participants, including men, wearing only a bra on their top half.
