A car club scheme in Norwich will be adding six new cars at six new locations across the city over the next two months.

Norfolk Car Club, a scheme which provides cars and vans for members to drive on a pay-as-you-go basis, currently has 20 cars at locations around the Norwich, Reepham and Aylsham - 17 of these are in the city.

By the end of April, six new cars will be located in Nelson Street, Northcote Road, Greyfriars, Avenue Road, Ella Road in Thorpe Hamlet, and Surrey Street.

The scheme, which sees cars located in designated parking bays announced in January it had been given permission to create a further 25 parking bays across the city between now and 2019 and was awarded an £100,000 boost from the Department of Transport last November.

Rex Warner, the founder of Norfolk Car Club, said: 'We are delighted to be able to announce this significant development of the club, which means more people in Norwich can now take advantage of the scheme.

'By the end of April we will have 23 cars in Norwich covering a wide part of the city. This is a very exciting time for the Norfolk Car Club, which offers flexible and cost effective travel solutions to many local people.

'The Department for Transport recently chose Norfolk Car Club to be the national demonstration project for expansion of an existing car club.'

The club has 500 members who book online and use a smart card to unlock the car and drive away. Users pay by the hour and vehicles are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
