They have been the talk of the World Cup in South Africa but Canaries' fans appear to be split as to whether the vuvuzela, or 'musical horn', should be outlawed from Carrow Road next season.

Vuvuzelas have become part of the tradition at football matches played in the World Cup this summer but the constant noise has lead to bosses at some other clubs, including bitter East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town, banning them from grounds.

And while officials at Norwich City say they are yet to decide whether to do the same at Carrow Road fans themselves seem undecided as to whether the vuvuzela should be shown the red card.

Kathy Blake, secretary of the Norwich City Independent Supporters Association (NCISA) said the 'jury was still out' on whether they should be allowed to become part of the Norwich City match day experience.

She said: 'I think you need to be in a stadium where they're being used. I've heard them on the TV and it sounds just like background noise, but if I was in a stadium and had someone blowing it in my ear for 90 minutes I might have a different opinion.'

The issue has divided opinion amongst fans on message boards, including Evening News sister paper The Pink Un, with some saying the instrument would be a welcome addition to Carrow Road, while others insist it would be a nuisance.

Terry Tibbs said: 'I might get one could be a good laugh.'

G said: 'One or two going now and again but nothing like the World Cup going all game please.'

Zemas Tendon said: 'Should be made available to the River End, City Stand - that way it should generate a bit of atmosphere.'

Davo said: 'No thanks, I go to games as much for the atmosphere as I do for the game (hence I prefer away games) and to have these things squeaking away all the time would ruin it.'

Paul NCFC said: 'No Thanks, cannot use a mute button at Fortress Carrow Road.'

Mello Yello said: 'No Ta very much.'

Lappinitup said: 'Mega No.'

A spokesman for Norwich City Football Club said 'no decision had been made on them yet', but Ipswich Town bosses have already moved to ban the musical instrument from Portman Road next season.

Mick Warden, Ipswich Town's head of safety and security, said: 'We have had a couple of enquiries about bringing vuvuzelas to games here next season.

'But they are classed as a musical instrument and our ground regulations state that no musical instruments are allowed into the stadium for games without permission and that won't be given.

"We have also been contacted by the national charity Deafness Research UK to say that there is evidence that fans risk permanent noise induced hearing loss through the constant use of vuvuzelas.'
