Pupils at Larkman Primary School have received some cycling tips from budding cyclist and Norwich City legend Jeremy Goss.

A group of pupils from years four, five and six at the Norwich primary school got some help with their cycling proficiency training when the former Wales international midfielder arrived on his training bike.

Gossy, as he is affectionately remembered by Canaries supporters, is preparing for his Back to Bayern Challenge in aid of the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind, which he starts tomorrow.

The challenge is named after Norwich City's most famous victory, winning 2-1 away at German football giants Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup in 1993, a match in which Gossy scored from a fantastic volley.

He showed the children some of the things he learned during his long hours of training and said: 'It was great to come to the school to talk to the children who have all been doing cycling proficiency training this term.

'It was good to see so much interest in cycling because apart from anything else, it's fun, it helps you to keep fit and it's a very practical way of getting around, but it's important to be aware of all the safety aspects too.'

Bayer CropScience, which manufactures crop protection products which are exported worldwide from Norwich, have donated 2,000 to Gossy's fundraising and organised the visit. Gossy continued: 'Bayer CropScience asked me to come to the school to pass on some of my experience and it was my pleasure.

'We talked about the importance of wearing a helmet and making yourself visible on the roads, both during the day and at night. The vests that Bayer presented the school with last year are being well used!'

The children were keen to ask Gossy about his challenge and were amazed to hear that he will be travelling 100 miles a day for 13 days – averaging about 20 miles an hour.
