Time is running out to help save iconic piece of Norwich’s history

The clock is ticking on a crowdfunding campaign to bring a historic Norwich statue back into public view.

The Samson and Hercules figures have been a familiar sight in Norwich's Tombland for more than 300 years. With only five days left, the Museum of Norwich is making a final plea for people to donate to their Saving Samson campaign.

Launched by the museum, the campaign aims to raise funds for a special case to display Samson - a 17th century statue which stood guard outside of the Samson and Hercules dance hall, Ritzy's and Ikon nightclub.

Replicas now stand in Samson and Hercules' places in Tombland.

The Museum of Norwich needs £15,000 to provide a home for the original statue, which was recently restored.

Currently at 54pc funded, there's still quite a way to go to reach the target.

According to the campaign, money donated will go towards creating a 'breathtaking new display featuring a bespoke, state of the art, environmentally controlled case'.

It will also be used for a custom made conservation grade mount and specially designed lighting to 'enable visitors to see every curl and sinew in tantalising detail'.

Various rewards are on offer for those who donate, including postcards for those who give £15 and a Samson tote bag for £25.
