Business people involved in a Fix Great Yarmouth Station campaign have met representatives of National Express East Anglia to look at how to take forward their initiative.

Business people involved in a Fix Great Yarmouth Station campaign have met representatives of National Express East Anglia to look at how to take forward their initiative.

Spencer McCormack, of BWell gyms, who has helped to co-ordinate the campaign, which has attracted more than 3,000 pledges of support since it was launched in February, said plans were progressing for a volunteer day on June 19.

He said: “We are raising funds for trees and plants and we will be inviting the public to help plant them at the station

on that day.”

The event is also likely to include entertainment by local bands and stalls manned by companies from the area.

Mr McCormack said Tim Fenn, a director of Evolved Media in Acle, was leading a project looking at possible themes for poster advertising to brighten the station.

“We would want there to be some Yarmouth theme, possibly using historic photographs, or perhaps we could get schools involved in designing them,” he said.

He said National Express had already agreed to implement some improvements to the station which has been branded dowdy and unwelcoming, and he was confident that with public support they could bring real changes.

Mr McCormack said he hoped they could eventually look at improvements to the neighbouring Vauxhall Bridge as part of their campaign.
