Rise in insurance claims and call-outs due to Beast from the East
Archant Norfolk 2018
Insurers and infrastructure companies have been inundated with calls after last week’s heavy snow with a spike in burst pipes and traffic collisions.
They have seen a spike in the aftermath of the Beast from the East, despite claims falling during the worst of the weather as many drivers avoided venturing outside.
King’s Lynn-based broker Adrian Flux reported a 100% increase in customers wanting breakdown cover but saw a 30% reduction in claims on Wednesday.
Insurance giant Aviva saw a jump in claims and has warned homeowners to be vigilant about leaks. Rob Townend, managing director of Aviva UK General Insurance, said: “Currently, the most common claims are for water leaks and frozen pipes as a result of severe snow and ice, and minor road accidents.”
Anglian Water said it had seen a leap in calls with north Norfolk particularly affected.
