Would-be witches and wizards can find everything they'd need for a year at Hogwarts courtesy of a magical new Norwich shop.

Owls, wands, a sorting hat and more can be found at the Norwich Cauldron which opened this weekend in Magdalen Street.

Couple Rachel Watkins and Stephen Knock co-founded the business together having previously both worked regular nine-to-five office jobs.

Stephen said: "The opening was brilliant - we had a steady flow of people throughout the day.

"It was great to have people come in and look around for the first time."

The pair renovated the independent shop over a six month period on a £6,000 budget, with Rachel saying: "Everything came together in the last few days.

"I think about one week before we wondered how we were going to open but by the end we were fairly relaxed.

"It was a combination of nerves, hopefulness and excitement - we had quite a lot of interest through social media posts we put up, as well as friends and family showing up.

"It was really nice to have that support - we've only been open two days and we've had repeat customers already."

Stephen added: "It's been fantastic to see the look on children's faces when they came into the shop - you don't get that feeling filling out a spreadsheet.

"We also hid some chocolate coins around the shop for kids to find and keep as well.

"There's a sense of satisfaction to potentially making someone's day by visiting the shop."

In addition to opening the shop, Rachel and Stephen had a Owl naming competition to raise money for Kayla, who is suffering from stage four high risk neuroblastoma.

The couple are already looking to expand on their shop, focussing on a more interactive experience.

Rachel said: "We'd like to get some small groups together, give them a bit of history about magic and witchcraft in East Anglia, and include some activities.

"We want to include some story telling, making and magic into the shop.

"We were slightly worried people wouldn't find it as magical as we do - but the feedback we've received suggest others think the same."

How much is Harry Potter worth?

Whether it's on pen and paper or the silver screen, the Harry Potter franchise is a cultural phenomenon with millions of fans across the globe.

The first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, has sold roughly 120 million copies worldwide making it the highest selling book in the series.

The series as a whole has sold over 500 million copies worldwide - which makes it the best-selling book series in history - 150 million more than second place, the Goosebumps series.

However, the original Harry Potter manuscript was turned down by 12 publishers before Bloomsbury finally accepted it in 1997.

Even the translation to the big screen didn't hinder the magical juggernaut, grossing a staggering £5.9 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

It is the fourth highest-grossing film series in the world.

In total, the Harry Potter franchise is worth roughly £32.5 billion.
