Bus routes in Norwich are set for a shake-up this month with bosses at First saying the changes will mean improvements for passengers.

New routes will be created, while bus bosses say other services are being changed to better link 'key areas'. The changes will come into effect from Sunday, September 21.

The number 25 bus service, which runs between the railway station and the University of East Anglia, via Unthank Road, will run every 10 minutes from Monday to Friday and every 15 minutes on Saturdays.

Following customer requests, all journeys from 8am to 8.30pm will operate via Morrisons at Riverside during the week, There will be extra buses in the early evenings and to the university on Sunday mornings.

The 25A service, via Earlham Road, will be replaced by the number 26 service, to run every 15 minutes.

The 26 is extended beyond the UEA to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital via Norwich Research Park on Monday to Friday. It also runs along The Avenues between Colman Road and Bluebell Road, which bosses say will mean faster journeys.

A new service 27 will run hourly from 9.30am to 4.30pm to serve Northfields and North Park Avenue and several peak time journeys to supplement the 26.

There are also changes to service 11, with an hourly service to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on Sundays, funded by Norfolk County Council.

A new service 12 will run from Norwich to Wroxham via Sprowston, with journeys from Wroxham to Stalham via Horning, Ludham and Catfield.

Two X13 commuter journeys have been added (7.45am from Attleborough to Norwich and 5.20pm return) which will run via the A11 and not Wymondham.

Most service 14/14A buses will now terminate at Wroxham. There have been some minor time changes to the 23/24 service, the 28/29 services and the 36 to 39 services.

Service 38A will no longer serve the Airport Industrial Estate to improve punctuality. Service 38 journeys will operate along Vulcan Road and Fifers Lane.

Hugo Forster, general manager for First Eastern Counties, said: 'These new services will strengthen the already successful Norwich network.'
