A youth choir is set to appear at one of the most prestigious musical events in the world after beating off stiff international competition.

The junior section of Broadland Youth Choir beat choirs around the world to get a place on the world stage at Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod in July.

The 25 young singers aged between eight and 11 will appear alongside youngsters from around the world, spending four days in Wales competing and taking part in other special events.

The group will take part in the Grand Parade with international singers, and The choir will be judged on singing the set song, I Will Sing With The Spirit by John Rutter, and a special song of their own choice.

Musical director Carole Tims said: “We are thrilled to be invited to take part in this prestigious event - it's rather like being chosen for the Olympics.

“Choirs and music groups from all around the world will take part, and it will be the experience of a lifetime for them.”

The youngsters must now try to raise the £3,000 cost of attending, and will be embarking on a fundraising programme including a concert on July 11.

Mrs Tims said the choir was also searching for sponsorship, as it receives no funding and survives on what it generates itself.

This was the first time the junior section of the choir had auditioned for the Eisteddfod, but the senior choir has visited before, and both have performed in the musical Joseph and on the BBC's Songs of Praise.
