Boy in the Lighthouse is a brand-new original theatre piece performed by a diverse cast of 25.
Incorporating physical theatre, contemporary dance, soundscape, beautiful music and a script based on devising workshops held over the last six months.
Boy in the Lighthouse by Total Ensemble Theatre Company takes the audience on a fantastical journey through the imagination of a boy, abandoned, isolated and living in an ancient, disused lighthouse.
Directed and devised by Rebecca Chapman, this wonderfully uplifting and gripping 75 minute Movement Theatre piece boasts a diverse cast, many with additional needs and those who have never performed on stage to those with decades of experience.
It is a window into the loneliness that can be felt simply by being a human.
A human being living without knowing the truth about the past and the repercussions of half-truths and disrupted memory, misinterpretation and misrepresentation.
It tells of how tragedy can alter the course of someone's life and how love can do the same, how courage and determination can unveil the facts and that truth can set you free.

Rebecca founded Total Ensemble Theatre Company in 2011 and it remains unique in this region by continuing against the odds to create a space for the facilitation of people to create original theatre productions from scratch for public performance on a yearly basis.
These people are from all walks of life, all with a wide range of skills, experience and a wide range of heightened life challenge.
They work alongside professional artists and theatre practitioners and commit fully, with passion, to each production, on a project basis.
Every production arises from an artistic commission from partner organisations such as the PBSK Hostry Festival, Norfolk & Norwich Festival and the Dean of Norwich.
The idea for the title of Boy in the Lighthouse was suggested by one of its cast members, Hugh Darrah, way back in 2015.
He said he had been thinking about this boy that lives in a lighthouse.
It sent shivers up Rebecca's spine and she has been wanting to produce, direct and write it since then but knew it deserved to be the central production of the Hostry Festival and therefore had to wait for the time to be absolutely right to give this great idea the energy, focus and passion it deserved.

'We believe theatre to be a place of risk and adventure, where there is often no safety net. It's a place for the brave and courageous.'
