Blind basket weavers are collaborating with experts to explore and stretch their creativity.
Basketry has been an activity offered by the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind’s heritage and living arts group for years, and members are taking advantage of a ground-breaking contemporary exhibition on the subject currently at the Sainsbury Centre at the University of East Anglia to learn more about the art.
The project will involve the group visiting the Basketry: Making Human Nature exhibition on March 28, after which a series of workshops will be held at the NNAB’s Bradbury Centre, in Edward Street, Norwich, when members will explore using new techniques and new materials in basket weaving.
The NNAB’s leisure co-ordinator Mark Smith said: “We’re thrilled with this collaboration with the Sainsbury Centre and the opportunity to experience such inspirational work.”
