The roar of motorbikes could be heard in Bowthorpe this weekend, as bikers paid a special tribute to one of their own.

Friends of Steve Simpson who shared his passion for motorbikes travelled from across the country to Norfolk to remember the 57-year-old from Lingwood, near Brundall.

Mr Simpson, who used to be in the RAF and later worked in computers, was diagnosed with choroidal melanoma, a cancer of the eye, in 2007.

Despite gruelling treatments, in December of last year the couple – who have two daughters, Natalie and Tracy – were told the cancer had spread to Mr Simpson’s liver and lungs and Mr Simpson passed away in March.

This weekend fellow Suzuki Intruder UK Forum members met at the Brook Hotel, in Bowthorpe, and spent Sunday touring around the Norfolk countryside and coastline.

Mr Simpson’s wife Roz said: “Some of them had travelled hundreds of miles so as you can imagine it was an incredible sight, not to mention sound, to see them all ride along.

“It was also very emotional not having Steve riding with them but what a fitting tribute to a truly wonderful man.”
