Changing the colour of your hair can give your look an instant revamp, but what colour do you go for? Emma Harrowing talks to the local hair salons that have made it through to the regional semi finals of the L'Oreal Colour Awards to find out about the seasonal colour hair trends and how you can get the right shade to suit you.

When it comes to hair colour there is one main message coming from Norfolk hair salons – bold is best. And it seems that red is the colour not only for spring and summer but also for next autumn and winter, as tones from bright red to copper red feature highly in the AW11 hair trends from the local salons shortlisted in the semi-finals of the L'Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy awards, which will be held in Cambridge on April 13.

Four salons in Norwich and Great Yarmouth have made the cut, including The Gallery Haircutters on Waterloo Road who are finalists in the L'Oreal Colour Trophy award, the men's image award and the young colourist award; Saks on Orford Hill who are finalists in the L'Oreal Colour Trophy award; Saks in Great Yarmouth who are finalists in the L'Oreal Colour Trophy award and the men's image award and Fusion in Gorleston, who are finalists in the young colourist award.

Since celebrities such as Rihanna and Nicky Minaj have opted for vibrant shades it's no surprise that bold colour has become a fashion statement. A bright colour instantly gives your hair a makeover and if you are not brave enough to go for a block red or vibrant copper shade, how about a two-toned or multi-tonal effect that uses a few colours to get a more natural look. In fact, there are various different shades of red that are tipped to be on trend this year, making it easier for you to find the right hue for you. Colour can also be semi-permanent or a colour that washes out after six washes, making it easier to experiment with colour without making a long-term commitment.

There are 60 salons in East Anglia who have made it through to the regional semi-finals and only six will go through to the Grand Final in London later this year.
