One of television's top antique experts visited a supermarket on the outskirts of Norwich to helps value shoppers' cherished possessions.

Paul Hayes, best known for appearing on the BBC's Cash in the Attic, evaluated old china, glassware, silver plates, jewellery, watches and prints when he headed to the Tesco store in Drayton.

Customers were given the chance to take in their heirlooms and have them evaluated at the newly-opened Fakenham Road store.

Mr Hayes said: 'It was great to visit Drayton; it's such a lovely place. I'm always keen to see what the Tesco customers are going to bring along and I was pleasantly surprised as there were a number of remarkable items.

'It's fantastic to see the look on people's faces when they discover that an item which has been sitting in their house for years is valuable.'

Customers who had their goods valued included Carol Matthewson, who took in a Royal Doulton vase, and Julie and Chris George from Taverham, who took in a painting.

Store manager Trevor Proudfoot said: 'The event was brilliant; it was great to have Paul Hayes in our new store.

'Our customers really enjoyed meeting him and having the opportunity to learn more about their items and their value.

'It was really interesting to hear the stories behind some of the items and see the surprise on the customers' faces.

'I'd like to thank Paul for visiting the store, he can come back any time.'
