Hot on the heels of rave reviews for his fifth solo album, Prince of Tears, Baxter Dury plays Norwich Arts Centre on April 23.

Son of Ian Dury, Baxter ended 2017 with his darkest, deepest and most emotional album riding high in the end-of-year polls conducted by the likes of Q and The Guardian.

The album's first single release, Miami is a portal into his hazy, anti-wonderland. We are guided by 'Miami' himself; a foul-mouthed and cocksure character created by Dury, centred on the delusions that can come with heartbreak.

'He thinks he's got swagger, he thinks he's someone, but he's not', explains Dury.

Intensely personal, yet brutally open, Prince of Tears is his most ambitious and biggest work to date. While retaining the natty charm of his previous works, like his debut Len Parrot's Memorial Lift or the acclaimed Happy Soup, Dury this time worked with a full band and orchestra to truly bring the soundscapes of his emotional netherworld to life.

The album features notable guests; including longstanding fan Jason Williamson from Sleaford Mods on the track 'Almond Milk' and Rose Elinor Dougall on 'Porcelain', as well as long-term collaborator Madelaine Hart providing backing vocals across numerous tracks and illuminating some of the album's dark corners.

With this album and huge tour, Baxter is set to emerge from the shadows of his late father. Like dad Ian, he adopts a half-singing/half-speaking Essex/Cockney tone, but his songs are different enough for him to stand on his own as a unique artist.

The recently added Norwich date follows a series of gigs in France and Belgium and comes in the same week as already sold out dates in Brighton and London's Wembley Arena.

Tickets for the show in Norwich on April 23 are available for £18 advance from the Norwich Arts Centre website.
