The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is heading back to the UEA with a new collection of breathtaking mountain adventure films, starring the world's top explorers on journeys in wild and remote parts of the globe.
Banff Mountain Film Festival has built a reputation for screening some of the best exhilarating adventure and extreme sport short films.
Next month it returns to the University of East Anglia as part of its biggest UK tour to date, showing films shot in some of the world's last great wild places.
Amongst the highlights will be a screening of The Frozen Road, which follows Yorkshireman Ben Page as he embarks on a solo bikepacking journey in the Canadian Arctic. He starts with romantic visions of perfect solitude, but as the latitude increases and the mercury falls below -30C, he discovers what it truly means to travel alone in this great emptiness.
Top adventurers Ben Stookesberry, Sarah McNair-Landry and Erik feature in Into Twin Galaxies – A Greenland Epic. Using kite skis, the trio tow their white-water kayaks 1,000km over the Greenland Ice Cap to reach the northernmost river ever paddled – and then the challenge gets even tougher. With spectacular cinematography, remote wilderness and a large amount of suffering, the acclaimed short film shows what it's like to be far out of your comfort zone.
The tour's films are chosen from hundreds of films entered into the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival, which takes place every year in the Canadian Rockies.
The UK tour is part of the wider Banff World Tour, which travels the globe each year, visiting nearly 50 countries and reaching more than 400,000 people worldwide.
Previous screenings in Norwich have attracted outdoor enthusiasts into all sorts of outdoor pursuits, and the vent also has free prize giveaways.
This year's programme also features Intersection, a film about mountain biker and painter Micayla Gatto, which blends hardcore mountain biking action with incredible artwork; Edges, about a 90-year-old ice skater; Stumped , about climber Maureen Beck born missing her lower left arm; Icecall, about freeride skier Sam Favret; and Imagination, a nostalgic film with some mind-blowing skiing, made in memory of Canadian freeskier JP Auclair.
