A 17-point plan aimed at improving car parking in Attleborough has moved a fresh step forward.
Town leaders wrote to Breckland Council last year asking the local authority to take a policy u-turn and introduce pay and display charges to resolve ongoing parking congestion problems.
Proposals to tackle the issues have moved on after the district council's overview and scrutiny commission approved a number of measures.
Councillors have ruled out introducing charging at Attleborough's three car parks. However, members agreed that long and short-stay spaces should be introduced at the Queens Square, Horse Pit and Edenside sites.

The authority's parking task and finish group has also recommended that it enters into an agreement with Attleborough Town Council to enforce the proposals.
If approved by Breckland Council's cabinet on May 11, drivers who overstay the three hour waiting limit at short-stay spaces would risk a 30 fine. Under the scheme, there would be 123 short-stay and 64 long-stay spaces in Attleborough.

Extra spaces could also be created with a re-design of the Queens Square site and the possible use of land behind the adult training centre in Station Road.
