The third 10km Run Norwich race has sold out, with all 6,000 places snapped up more than a month before the deadline to register.

The capacity for this year’s race, which will take place on August 6, was increased by 1,000 after last year’s turn-out, with the new number a record for the event.

The 6,000 participants, the last of which signed up on Monday, include 900 official race charity runners who will be raising cash for The Big C, SERV Norfolk, Norwich and Norfolk Mind and the Community Sports Foundation (CSF).

Dan Wynne, from the CSF, which organises Run Norwich, said: “We have had an absolutely unbelievable response this year - in our first two years we had 3,800 and then 5,200 so this is excellent.

“We sat down with our technical team and new event manager Amy Grewe this year and looked at how much we could expand it without affecting the race experience.

“To be full by May, five or six weeks away from the entry deadline, is incredible.”

Runners will begin and end the race near the market, taking in Chapelfield Gardens, Castle Meadow, King Street, Carrow Road, the Cathedral and Magdalen Street along the way.

Mr Wynne said the team were proud to see how far the event had come in just three years.

“When we first started we didn’t have anything to illustrate the event with,” he said, “and no-one really knew was Run Norwich was.

“We had to work non-stop to promote it, but thankfully enough people got on board and made it a success.”

The CSF has worked with the Forum, Norwich City, Norwich City Council, Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) and Visit Norfolk to organise the race.

Runners who have entered but are now unable to take part can transfer their entry to a friend or family member until the cut off date of Monday, July 3.
