Fans are reacting to the shock news that Norwich City have sacked Alex Neil as manager.

On Friday evening the club confirmed that Neil’s contract would be terminated with immediate effect ‘in the best interests of the club.’

Fans have reacted to the news on Twitter with a mixed response, but are generally pleased about his departure.

Ian Gabelli tweeted: What a start to the weekend. Good riddance #ncfc

Another user, Beth Soanes, tweeted: Agree AN had to go but mustn’t forget he gave many of us an incredible memory of Wembley win. Wish him well for the future #ncfc

The directors have thanked Neil for his hard work and ‘fantastic achievement of guiding us to the Premier League in 2015, via a memorable play-off final success against Middlesbrough at Wembley.’

Assistant manager Alex Irvine will take the team for Saturday’s game against Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road. Tweet us your thoughts on his departure at @EDP24
