Five people were taken to hospital and a cow was killed in a crash on the A47, which saw the road closed for 11 hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the crash on the A47 Acle Straight on Wednesday.

Officers were called just before midnight to reports of the incident, on the stretch of road between Acle and Halvergate, where a black Mercedes had crashed with a cow, leading to a further crash involving a Honda Civic and Renault Captur.

Police said the cow died at the scene.

The female passenger of the Mercedes suffered serious facial injuries, while four other people sustained slight injuries.

All were taken to the James Paget Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed overnight and reopened at 11am on Thursday.

While the road was closed, another crash took place on the diversion route on the A1064. No-one was injured.

It came after another crash on the same stretch of A47 at 6.20pm on Wednesday, which involved nine cars. No-one was seriously injured.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, particularly the manner of driving of the vehicles prior to the incident.
