A busy road in and out of Norwich was closed as police dealt with concerns for safety of a man who was found to be in possession of a firearm and a knife.

Specialist officers and police negotiators were called to an address on the A146 just after 1.15pm on Monday.

They closed the road between Woolner's Lane and Gull Lane while they dealt with the incident, and asked drivers to avoid the area.

Police said a man, aged in his late 20s, was arrested just before 4pm on suspicion of committing firearms offences and was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.

A knife and what police believe is an air weapon were seized.
