More than £4,000 has been raised for Norfolk's bereaved children's charity Nelson's Journey through a series of successful fundraising events from a local Masonic Lodge branch.

The money has been raised by Freemasons, family and friends of Bishop Herbert Lodge Drayton and fellow Masons from various other lodges in Norfolk, through their support at social functions and fundraising events.

Keith London, the Master of Bishop Herbert Lodge Drayton and his wife Christine, have presented a cheque for £4,500 to Nelson’s Journey representative Debbie Winteringham, pictured.

This presesntation took place at the final fundraising event of his Masonic year, a bowls and barbecue afternoon.

Keith said: “In the current economic times charities, like everyone else, are under increasing pressures to make ends meet so I am very grateful for all the support I have received from fellow Freemasons and friends to enable me to help Nelson’s Journey, a local Norfolk charity close to my own and my wife Christine’s hearts.”

The social events held throughout the year to raise funds have included: a Christmas event with lady hand bell ringers Marsham Belles and Pavilion Brass Quintet accompanying their carol singing; a Burns Night at the Oaklands Hotel in Norwich; a ladies festival at Sprowston Manor Hotel; the annual quiz and the annual friends and family lunch.

Keith and Christine thanked all the Brethren, their wives, families and friends for their continued support throughout his year as Master of the Lodge at the cheque presentation.

Nicki Gibson, marketing and fundraising officer for Nelson’s Journey, said: “We are very grateful to Bishop Herbert Lodge for their continued support and for the funds which they have raised through a number of organised events. Their support is very important to us and will help us to continue providing a valuable service to the bereaved children within Norfolk.”
