Carrowbreck House on Drayton High Road in Hellesdon is a new centre for about 91 young people to train in vocational subjects they enjoy.

The facility will be a base for Broadland Council Training Services (BCTS), a specialist training provider for Broadland District Council.

From childcare, sports and active leisure and customer service to business administration, animal care and music technology, 16 to 18-year-olds can study a variety of topics.

And Broadland Council's chairman Tony Adams said he hopes the new centre will eventually help the region's youngsters searching for their dream job.

'Carrowbreck is a fantastic base for teenagers to come and learn in a really relaxed environment,' he said.

'I now hope that lots of young people across Norfolk will take advantage of this new facility as well as the excellent tutors and sign up to a course.'

Broadland District Council originally leased Carrowbreck House in 2008 for BCTS to run a construction training programme for teams of young, long-term unemployed trainees and ex-offenders at the site.

But when government funding stopped in 2012, the council bought the property and allocated funds to complete the renovation work which had been started by the young teams.

Andrew Proctor, leader of Broadland Council, said it was rare to see a council running its own training centre and pledged that young will learn a lot from the scheme.

The first intake of students will start on September 22 and courses will start in January and March 2015. Anyone aged between 16 and 18 and interested in a study programme should contact BCTS on 01603 788950, www.facebook.com/bctsnorfolk or on Twitter @bctsnorfolk
