The Evening News has once again teamed up with Sport Relief and the Norfolk Community Foundation to hand out grants to deserving small organisations in and around Norwich.

That could be a sports club, children's group, church or theatre company – or any other group doing a great job for people in and around Norwich.

Since the initiative was launched in 2010, the Evening News, Sport Relief and Comic Relief have together given out more than 110,000 to those who need it most.

Tim Williams, editor of the Evening News, said: 'This Sport Relief initiative is fantastic news for the people of Norwich.

'More than 50 groups will benefit from grants of up to 1,000 and I am sure it will make a difference to people throughout our community.

'Every day we are working at the heart of Norwich life and our team is always meeting organisations for whom a grant like this would be a huge boost.'

Mr Williams will be part of the panel that decides the grants, and he encouraged as many people and organisations as possible to take advantage of the opportunity to apply.

'Last time we teamed up with Sport Relief more than 70 groups benefited from cash that helped them continue their great work.

'Sport Relief is a charity which is an inspiration to us all, with a fabulous record of identifying and helping those in need across the country.

'The Evening News is delighted to help it here in Norwich.'

To qualify for one of the grants, which range between 500 and 1,000, groups must be within the Norwich City Council local authority area, work in a disadvantaged or deprived area of Norwich and have an income of less than 100,000. Among those eligible for the Sport Relief Community Cash are parent and toddler organisations, dads and lads groups, youth and older people's groups and lunch clubs. Greg James, BBC Radio 1 presenter and UEA graduate, is also backing the campaign and wants people to get involved in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Norwich on Sunday, March 25. He said: 'Alright, Norwich! Get up, start stretching those muscles, and jog on over to sportrelief.com to enter the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile right here in Norwich.

'The money you raise by getting sponsored will help fund fantastic projects in Norwich, across the rest of the UK and in the world's poorest countries, making an incredible difference to the lives of those in need.'
