Police have issued a warning after reports of suspicious cold callers in Norwich.

A man has reportedly been knocking on doors in the city and claiming to work for BT.

The first incident was reported on Wednesday, September 23, at 3.40pm on Aylsham Road, followed by a second report around 4pm on Berners Street.

In both cases, the man claimed he needed to carry out broadband speed checks and asked homeowners for their mobile phones.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who calls at your door should have some form of identification.

"You are well within your rights to ask for this and make a note of their details.

"Remember, it’s ok to tell visitors you’re not interested or ask them to leave if you aren’t comfortable.

"Legitimate visitors will understand."

Police are advising the public not to agree to buy goods or services from unannounced callers, not to let them into their homes and never to provide personal or financial information.

Anyone who feels threatened or believes they may have been targeted by a scam should contact the police.
