Small businesses and crafters are being targeted by scammers offering fake stall bookings at Christmas fairs.
Norfolk County Council Trading Standards has issued a warning following a statement shared by The Forum in Norwich about emails claiming to be from them.
The emails offer vendor space at seasonal events such as the Norwich Global Village Market in November and the Festive Fair in December.
A spokesman for Norfolk County Council Trading Standards said: "If you are looking to book stand space at any event, our advice is to do your homework beforehand, make sure the person advertising the event is a genuine organiser."
The emails are being sent from personal-style addresses and use subject lines such as 'Event Vendor Invitation'.
Businesses and crafters are urged to call the venue first and double-check the event and the genuine organisers’ details before parting with any money.
Anyone who has received a suspicious email is encouraged to report it to the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133.
