A mother has recalled the harrowing moment her son's face was left "covered in blood" after a dog attack at a park.
Police received a report of the "extremely distressing" attack in the Lynn Road park in Wisbech, at around 6pm on Wednesday (September 9).
A 12-year-old boy was injured and taken to hospital in King's Lynn and Norwich for further treatment as officers continue to investigate the incident.
Zaneta Kubow, from Wisbech, explained her son, Alan, had cycled to the park with a friend to visit a youth club and she "hadn't heard from him".
"The next thing I know I've got his friend's mum knocking on the door with my son and his friend who went with him," she said.
"His whole face was covered in blood, his eyebrows were red, so I went to the police and they told me to go straight to A&E."
Alan was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in King's Lynn, before visiting a plastic surgeon at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in Colney.
He received six stitches around his eyebrow and nose and is now under the care of a consultant amid fears the attack could have damaged his nasal bone.
"This has been an extremely distressing experience for my son," Ms Kubow added.
"He is now terrified and frightened following the attack, and it has understandably had a significant emotional impact on him.
"My son is a very active and sporty child and football and boxing are a very important part of his normal life.
"Before this incident, he regularly attended football activities at Peterborough United and also played football at Wisbech St Mary Football Club."
Ms Kubow revealed that Alan is now no longer able to take part in these activities due to his injuries.
She added: "He has been advised to stop his boxing training for approximately three weeks, and he is also unable to participate normally in his football activities while he recovers.
"Being unable to attend his usual clubs and activities has therefore affected his normal routine, socialising and enjoyment of everyday life.
"He has already been left frightened and traumatised by what happened, and having to stop the activities that he enjoys has made the situation even more difficult for him."
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed it has raised a crime of "allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control injuring a person".
A spokesperson for the force revealed no arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
