A new phone scam is circulating in Norfolk, targeting people with false claims about NHS services.
Norfolk County Council’s Trading Standards team has issued a warning after receiving reports of fraudulent calls featuring a recorded message about GP registry updates.
The message urges recipients, often from mobile numbers beginning with 07, to press one to speak with a supposed NHS representative who will help set up a new "mobile app".
A spokesman for Trading Standards said: "We are urging residents to be vigilant following reports of scam phone calls claiming to be from the NHS.
"The NHS will not cold call you asking you to press buttons to keep access to your GP or local practitioner."
Officials warn that these calls are designed to steal personal and financial information and say callers may try to create a sense of urgency to pressure people into sharing sensitive details.
"Criminals may use these calls to obtain personal information, banking details, passwords or security codes," the spokesman added.
"Phone numbers can be spoofed, meaning a call may appear to come from a genuine mobile number.
"Do not press any buttons during unexpected calls.
"Hang up immediately if you are unsure who is calling."
Those who have already shared information with the caller should contact their bank immediately, monitor their accounts for unusual activity and report the scam to Report Fraud.
