A discount store in Norwich has been forced to close after its ceiling collapsed, scattering debris across the shop floor.

Home Values in St Stephens Street is currently shut after there was a leak in the sprinkler system, which caused the ceiling to collapse over the weekend.

The damage can be seen through the shop front windows, with debris and water over the floor.

Members of staff could be seen trying to clean up the puddles of water on Sunday afternoon, while water continued to fall from the ceiling.

One shopper said the collapse did not seem isolated, with debris scratted across multiple parts of the shop.

It comes after the store opened in April in the former Poundland unit, which closed and relocated across the street in 2024.

Following Poundland's closure, the site was acquired by Nottingham-based developer ALB Group and opened with a six-month lease with Home Values.

At the time of opening, a spokeswoman for ALB Group said: "We are delighted to announce that we have signed a six-month lease."

"This will be while ALB Group works up a master plan for the regeneration scheme as a whole."

The group also announced this year that plans to convert the former Wilko and Poundland site on St Stephens Street into 70 flats for young professionals have been approved.

It is unclear when the shop will reopen due to the extent of the damage, but ABL, which is currently leasing the site, has been contacted.
