Norfolk County Council collected almost £650,000 from parking tickets issued between January and the end of July, it can be revealed.
The fines were handed out across Norwich, Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King’s Lynn, north Norfolk, and south Norfolk.
In total, the council collected £648,977.74 from tickets issued between January 1 and July 29, 2026, according to a Freedom of Information request submitted by this newspaper.
Prince of Wales Road in Norwich saw a 15pc increase in penalties, with more than 443 drivers fined so far this year, compared with 379 in the whole of 2025.
Norfolk County Council has faced criticism from traders in the street after upping its evening traffic warden patrols in September 2025, even though bosses said the decision followed complaints from local businesses.
But despite the significant increase this year in the city’s clubland, it is not the most heavily ticketed street across the NR1 to NR9 postcode area in 2025 and 2026.
Colegate came out on top with 502 drivers getting slapped with fines in the same period of 2026, with 1,002 caught in 2025.
People working in the road just off Magdalen Street said they have watched drivers dodge the "expensive" parking fees and get "confused" by the signage in the street in July of this year.
The data also revealed Geoffrey Watling Way, near Carrow Road, was a hotspot for parking tickets in 2025.
Some 478 drivers were issued penalties for parking in the street.
Last year, Norfolk County Council racked up £1,292,652.92 on parking tickets across Norwich, Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King’s Lynn, north Norfolk, and south Norfolk.
The Norfolk Parking Partnership - made up of councillors from authorities across the county - agreed in 2022 that short-stay on-street parking charges on Norwich's streets would automatically increase each April.
The cost for short-stay parking in on-street bays in 35 Norwich streets, including Magdalen Street, Prince of Wales Road, Princes Street, Rouen Road and St Giles Street.
