Two bakers 250 miles apart have stepped in to support customers left without treats ordered from fellow baker Terry Bakes by sending them free mystery boxes.
Bakes by Alice and Rita’s Cakes and Bakes have offered help to people who were told to get a chargeback from the Norwich baker after waiting months for their orders.
Alice Denning, who is based in Gateshead, near Newcastle Upon Tyne, has already sent seven mystery boxes containing sweet treats ranging from stuffed cookies to old-school cake to customers chosen at random.
She and Carly Ruocco, who runs Rita’s Cakes and Bakes near Luton, hope to "restore a little faith in small businesses".
"All of us bakers have got together to share the kindness and love," Mrs Denning said.
"Me and Rita’s Cakes and Bakes quite often message each other now to see how we can help further.
"It’s the right thing to do."
Ms Ruocco said she saw online that Mr Pegler’s customers had been left disappointed and "wanted to do something nice for a few of them".
Ms Ruocco said: "I also worried that experiences like this can make people nervous about ordering from other independent bakers, when there are so many small businesses working incredibly hard for their customers."
Customers had ordered mystery boxes from Terry Bakes but were left waiting for their sweet treats.
Some complained to Trading Standards, which said it was continuing to review the concerns.
Mr Pegler then told customers to seek a chargeback from their banks, saying he could not fulfil the orders and could not offer refunds.
Recent videos shared on Instagram show Mr Pegler saying he has started sending boxes to customers.
Mr Pegler said: "I said I was going to send some boxes out, so this is me packing up the boxes to go out today.
"This is me trying to put wrongs right."
