Those wishing for a late summer scorcher have had their hopes quashed after the Met Office ruled out another heatwave.
Although some forecasts had raised hopes of September bringing one last burst of sizzling sunshine, the latest outlook shows rain and showers are set to spoil the start of autumn.
There is some good news for sunseekers, with a warm weekend on the way.
Temperatures could climb into the mid-20s in Norfolk on Sunday, so while there may be a final taste of summer this weekend, it looks unlikely to turn into the September heatwave many had been hoping for.
Parts of the county were under a yellow Met Office warning last week and the forecaster had warned that flooding was possible.
This came after five back-to-back heatwaves that plunged the county into drought during the summer.
Heavy rain caused flooding in Fastolff Avenue in Gorleston on Friday after most of the county woke up to heavy showers.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Heard another heatwave is on the way?
"While a warmer spell will affect parts of the UK this weekend and temperatures will widely rise above average on Sunday, this heat spike will be brief.
"By Monday, most places will be much cooler again."
The forecaster has not ruled out short spells of warm or even very warm weather later this month, particularly in southern parts of the UK.
However, it is not expecting the prolonged, widespread conditions required for a heatwave.
Summer 2026 was the warmest in the UK since records began in 1884, according to provisional figures.
The average temperature across June, July and August was 16.5C, beating the previous high of 16.1C set only last year.
