Former Wymondham council building is going to auction

The Grade II listed property in Middleton Street, Wymondham, will go to auction on September 9, with bids starting at £275,000, after being vacant since 2020.

It stopped being used as council offices when the authority moved to new premises at Kett’s Park.

The current owners have planning permission to convert the three-storey building into five apartments.

Renovation work has already started, aiming to create "high-end living accommodation while retaining the building's character façade".

The grand building was originally built by wealthy local Randall Burroughes for his mother-in-law in the 18th century.

It remained as a house until 1937, when it was purchased by Wymondham Urban District Council for use as offices.

The conversion project is expected to deliver "attractive town-centre homes".
