More than 1,100 metres of ageing gas pipes are to be replaced as part of a major upgrade project.
The scheme, set to begin in Horsham Saint Faith, is being carried out by Cadent and will involve upgrading the gas network along Old Norwich Road.
Starting on Tuesday, September 1, the work will see the replacement of pipes originally installed in 1935.
Eleanor Buxton, head of work management at Cadent, said: "The pipes that are in place in this section of the network have been very well used over the years.
"It’s now time for them to be replaced so that we can continue to deliver gas safely to homes and businesses 24/7, 365 days a year.
"We know these residential roads are important for people living, working, and travelling in Horsham Saint Faith, which is why we have planned the work carefully.
"I thank everybody for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work."
The project forms part of Cadent’s wider investment in the East of England, aiming to upgrade older gas mains with modern plastic pipes that are more durable and built to last.
Work is expected to be completed by Friday, October 9.
Due to the location of the pipeline, Old Norwich Road will be closed at the junction with Crown Road and Spixworth Road.
A section of Blind Lane will also be closed at its junction with Old Norwich Road.
Residents are advised to follow the signed diversion routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
Gas supplies will remain on for the duration of the works wherever possible.
However, in some cases, Cadent engineers may need to alter gas services connected to the pipes being replaced.
Affected customers will be contacted in advance with further information.
