Trio appear in court over fatal crash with cyclist in Norwich

A man accused over the death of a cyclist following a crash at Colney, near Norwich, more than two years ago has appeared in court.

Sagaanan Suntharalingam, 23, has been charged with causing death by careless driving, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured, and perverting the course of justice.

It follows an incident when bike rider Edward Cooke—who was in his 50s—died at the scene after being struck by a Mercedes vehicle on the B1108 Watton Road at about 5.10am on November 9, 2023.

Suntharalingam, from Dunstable, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday (July 10) in connection with the fatal crash.

Appearing alongside him in court were Melvin Arulanandam, 24, from Sutton, and Pratheep Sukumar, also 24, from Romford, who have both been charged with perverting the course of justice.

No pleas were formally entered by any of the defendants.

District Judge Matthew Bone said the case could not be dealt with in the magistrates court and formally sent the matter to Norwich Crown Court on August 7.

All three defendants were granted unconditional bail.
