Norwich has been named among the UK’s cities with the most confident drivers in a new national study.

The research, carried out by Scrap Car Comparison, ranked the city fifth in the country with a "confidence score" of 62 out of 100.

The study asked drivers across the UK to rate their confidence across 48 different driving tasks, including manoeuvres, driving conditions and vehicle maintenance.

Norwich motorists scored particularly well for tasks involving roundabouts, with 10 pc more drivers confident on them compared to the national average.

A spokesman for Scrap Car Comparison said: "Norwich drivers performed well across almost every category, but most notably when it came to manoeuvres and specific driving situations, where they scored 18 out of a possible 25 for each category."

The study also found that drivers in the city felt more assured than the UK average when changing lanes on the motorway, using sat nav and completing long journeys.

People in Norwich were also more confident in eight out of 13 maintenance tasks, including jump-starting a car and changing a flat tyre.
