A football legend who used to play for Norwich City has died at the age of 68.
Former striker Gary Rowell died while surrounded by family on Saturday afternoon.
He was being treated for leukaemia, and his death fell 50 years to the day since his debut for Sunderland AFC.
Rowell spent more than a decade with Sunderland and is still remembered for scoring 103 goals in 297 games.
Capped once at under-21 level by England, he is one of only three men – Len Shackleton and Kevin Phillips are the others – to have scored 100 goals for the club in the post-war era.
He moved to Norwich in the summer of 1984 and made six appearances for the Canaries.
He was injured for their victory over his former club in the 1985 League Cup final.
Over the course of his career, he also played for Middlesbrough, Brighton, Carlisle and Burnley.
After his retirement, he worked as a financial consultant and radio pundit and was inducted into the SAFC Hall of Fame in 2020.
Tributes have been flooding in.
His former team-mate Shuan Elliot said: “I remember jumping on him when he completed his hat-trick against Newcastle. It made him a legend."
Another former team-mate, Peter Stronach, added: “He was a lovely warm person. He always had a lovely smile and dazzling eyes. He was a beautiful person."
