New McDonald's among Norfolk public notices this week

1) Plans for new school at site of pig farm

Plans have emerged for a new school in Bawburgh (Image: Simon Finlay) The proposals lodged with South Norfolk Council set out designs for a two-storey school building and play area in Bawburgh.

The new facility would be built in Long Lane, near Costessey Park and Ride, on a site currently used as a pig farm.

The plans are in the early stages and have cropped up in the wake of large housing developments in surrounding villages. 

The school would include a multi-use games area, play areas, a pupil drop-off and collection point and a car park.

The site earmarked for the development spans nearly eight acres and is located on the eastern side of Long Lane, close to the A47. 

2) Claims to the estate of James Frederik Page

James Frederik Page, who lived in Christchurch Road, Norwich, died on March 25.

Under the Trustee Act 1925, any persons having a claim against or an interest in the estate are required to send written inquiries to Leathes Prior, 74 The Close, Norwich, NR1 4DR.

All letters must be sent by May 13.

3) Delays expected as £95,000 works planned for busy junction

A busy road in Diss is to close for £95,000 works (Image: Google/Newsquest) Work to replace traffic lights at the junction of Victoria Road with Sawmills Road in Diss begins on April 6.

It is expected to take 20 days to complete and is part of a countywide effort to make sure traffic lights work reliably and efficiently.

Though the junction will remain open, lane restrictions and three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place.

The replacement works will cost £95,000 and will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Infrastructure Department and its contractors.

4) Plans for Riverside McDonald's approved

Norwich will soon receive its eleventh McDonald's (Image: Newsquest) Norwich City Council has approved plans, initially submitted in January, for new signage and an overhaul of the former Poundland store at the Riverside Retail Park in Norwich.

It will be the eleventh McDonald’s in Norwich.

It is understood that the site will house only a restaurant, as no plans were put forward for a drive-through.

McDonald's confirmed in a previous release that construction on-site will begin in the "late spring or early summer" with a view to opening by late autumn.

5) Plans lodged for BILLION pound hospital in Great Yarmouth

A bird's-eye view of the existing James Paget Hospital which will be replaced under new plans lodged with Great Yarmouth Borough Council (Image: JPUH) The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has lodged papers with Great Yarmouth Borough Council for its proposal to build a state-of-the-art facility west of the current hospital in Gorleston.

Health bosses say the new building would increase capacity and meet growing demand. 

The new hospital would see bed numbers rise from 550 to 630, as well as the creation of two multi-storey car parks providing 2,000 spaces, an increase of 400.  

Currently, the hospital is seeking the borough council’s opinion on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), with two planning applications set to be submitted this year.  

These include an outline application covering the full redevelopment and a separate full application for enabling works, such as site clearance and new parking facilities.
