An innovative bin store with a "living" roof has been installed to combat fly-tipping in a Norwich neighbourhood.
The modern structure, built by Metrostor, has been set up at Bertram Way in Thorpe Hamlet to address issues of fly-tipping, odour, and obstruction in the parking court.
The project was funded and managed by Flagship Group, which owns several flats in the area, and received a £10,000 grant from its supplier, Travis Perkins.
Joe McNeill, neighbourhood operations manager at Victory Homes, said: “Residents in Bertram Way made us aware of some issues with the bins, so we looked at designing something that is a lot more modern, firesafe and eco-friendly with the ‘living’ green roof.
"The new bin store looks great, it’s lockable and it’s a lot tidier.”
The bin store features low-maintenance sedum plants on its roof.
Norwich City Council collaborated with Flagship on the project to ensure easy access for refuse collectors.
Peter Chambers, environment services officer at NCC, said: "It’s important to have collaborative working on these sorts of schemes, so all parties can achieve the results they want."
