A man has been arrested after an early morning city shop ram raid saw hundreds of pounds stolen.

Norfolk police has confirmed that, following an incident in Ber Street, a man in his 50s - and from the Norwich area - has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Ajith Kumar, the owner of Ber Street Convenience Store, was woken up in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, April 16, by the alarm sounding at his shop.

He discovered that one of his shop windows had been shattered and the door smashed in.

Around £200 and lots of tobacco were stolen during the raid.

At the time of the burglary Norfolk police confirmed that there was more than one person involved.

A spokesman said: "Two suspects used what is believed to be a stolen vehicle to damage the front of the building and gain entry. Multiple items were stolen."

The suspect remains on police bail until July 23.
