The owners of Platten's chip shop on The Quay in Wells have applied to turn its first-floor restaurant into an Airbnb holiday let.

planning statement said: "The first floor was always more difficult to run as a restaurant as all the food preparation areas are on the ground floor.

"This leaves the first floor of Number 12 open for discussion for an alternative use and Airbnb-type holiday accommodation was considered as this is always at a premium in Wells and would be advantageous to the business financially."

5. Plans to turn church into art gallery and piano bar

Plans have been submitted to turn St Margaret's Church in St Benedicts Street into an art gallery and piano bar.

The church has previously been used as a gym, an exhibition space, an antiques centre and a cafe since it became redundant in 1973.

A planning application submitted to Norwich City Council by John Taylor said: "The church has been used in the recent past as an art exhibition space and the plan is to retain this function but to complement this with a bar and piano.

"This gives the gallery an opportunity to be commercially viable, while also returning a ‘piano bar’ style venue to St Benedicts – something it hasn’t had since the closure of Platform 12 just prior to the Covid closures."
