From Scandinavian homeware to very British Yorkshire pudding wraps, there is a wide range of businesses coming to Norwich in May 2024.

Here are five of the openings people should be most excited about.

Scandinavian homeware and lifestyle store Søstrene Grene will open in London Street in Norwich on May 10 at 10am.

The retailer sells soft furnishings, kitchen products, furniture, gifts, hobby and craft items, seasonal decorations, children’s toys and “mini home” products. 

It was founded in 1973 and now has more than 275 stores across 16 countries. 

The first 100 customers will be gifted a voucher for a free large, tufted rug worth £60 and a canvas tote bag full of treats.

New 'continental beer bar' to launch

Toby Westgarth and Dominic Burke, who run Sir Toby's Beers on the market, will open a new bar in King Street this month.

Bier Draak will offer a range of draught and bottled German and Belgian beers alongside a selection of cold meats and cheeses.

It will open to the public on May 12.

Afro-Caribbean supermarket opening

FoodByCpC opened in Anglia Square in 2021 and sells products from countries including Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.

On Friday, May 3, owner Gilbert Eyenga will open another shop in Aylsham Road, Mile Cross.

It will be open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

New city centre bubble tea shop

A new bubble tea shop, Lightea, officially opened in White Lion Street on May 1.

It sells a range of cold brews, including classic flavours mango, lychee and green apple, as well as more unusual flavours including creme brulee, tiramisu and strawberry crunchie.

Lightea will be open from 11am to 7pm every day except Saturday which has an earlier opening time of 10.30am.

Yorkie wrap spot in Castle Quarter

Also new for May is the new Giant Yorkie Roast Co unit in Castle Quarter.

The kitchen - which sells roast dinner wraps filled with pulled turkey, beef brisket, pulled pork and a range of vegetarian options with all the trimmings - opened on May 1.

The business was founded by Sam Brown in the winter of 2019 and grew into a roast dinner delivery service over the preceding lockdowns.
