A road was closed near Norwich earlier today following a gas leak.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue were dealing with a gas leak in Fakenham Road, Taverham and had to close the road.
A cordon was put in place after a gas mains line was ruptured during roadworks.
Nearby houses were evacuated and two fire crews attended the scene.
A police officer at the scene said: "Several people were evacuated from their homes but it isn't a major incident and we hope to have the area reopened in a couple of hours."
A woman who lives nearby said the street had smelled of gas since the morning.
People were asked to avoid the area while the incident was dealt with.
Fakenham Road was previously closed but temporary traffic lights have now been set up to allow traffic through the road.
