Repairs need to be made after a children's play park was set on fire on the outskirts of the city centre.

The blaze happened on April 12, when an area of soft asphalt under a climbing frame was seemingly set on fire at Bowers Avenue Park, also known as Spa Park, off Boundary Road in Mile Cross.

While the damage was "minor" Norwich City Council have confirmed that plans are being made to repair the play area's rubber surface.

Norwich Evening News:

A Norwich City Council spokesman said: "We've carried out a thorough clean and will now arrange a repair for the rubber surface that was burnt.

"Fortunately, in this instance the damage caused to the play equipment was minor.

"It was quickly inspected last week to confirm it remained safe to use and didn’t need to be closed off.

"This kind of vandalism is unacceptable.

"They're putting others at risk and making them feel unsafe - it isn't fair on the local community and families who want to enjoy going to their local park.

"If anyone has information about this incident, we' ask them to contact the police."
